A recent graduate of Auckland Law School, Petrina's role at Dawson & Associates marks the beginning of her career in maritime law. She is an experienced mariner and a qualified Chief Officer, with expertise spanning recreational boating, the domestic commercial industry, and the international superyacht sector.

Petrina’s hands-on experience working on yachts enriches her legal practice, enabling her to understand and relate to clients while delivering clear, practical advice and efficient solutions. Her passion for the maritime industry and commitment to supporting mariners drive her dedication to both her clients and her professional growth in the field.

Born in Singapore, Petrina moved to New Zealand as a child and was raised in the Bay of Islands. She grew up competing in dinghy racing across the country and assisting her father, a boat builder, in the yard. From the age of 18, she balanced her law studies with work as a deckhand and engineer on domestic ferry and tourism vessels. She later gained international experience on superyachts in the United States, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean before returning to New Zealand to complete her studies.
