Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships - Marine Protection Rules Part 199

Marine Protection Rules Part 199: Prevention of air pollution from ships was signed by the Minister of Transport on 16 March 2022 and will come into force 3 months after New Zealand accedes to MARPOL Annex VI.  Accession is expected to be completed in April 2022.

These rules apply to both domestic and international voyaging ships and apply to different types of ships and boats in different ways.

The rules are available on the Maritime New Zealand website.  Vessel operators and owners should familiarise themselves with the new requirements in advance of the rules coming into force.

Maritime New Zealand will provide guidance materials in due course.
